Foreword
As a GNU enthusiast, i have been using GNU/Linux on my PC since the age of 14. In these 4 years (As on Feb 6, 2008), I have tried almost every major GNU/Linux alternative out there. Three did catch my eye
In fact the above list is in order. This doesnt mean Debian is the third best distro out there. It just means that I like Gentoo and Arch better for my Personal Computer
Why I like debian
What I like the most about Debian GNU/Linux is its huge software package repository. Debian has the largest and most stable packages in The Free World. Every package in the Debian stable repository has to pass through the unstable repo and then the testing repo and finally when it reaches the stable repo, it will almost never fail.
The package manager frontends of Debian such as apt-get and aptitude too are way better than the excuses rpm based distros have to offer. Only Emerge of Gentoo has been more powerful and Pacman of Arch have been more powerful than these two.
A third reason I like Debian is the user community. No other community has as many skilled, dedicated and motivated user community. They were the guys who found out that mass maintaining a huge software package leads to better results. (X-StrikeForce).
The fourth reason, is the one that is close to my heart. Debian says Debian GNU/Linux. This page will tell you why GNU/Linux is pertinent.
